Mariane Pernelle at Heartland Theatre, Aug 2021 – Oct 2021

October closed Heartland Theatre Company's production of Moliere's "Tartuffe". It has been a true joy to do this show, & an honor to work, once again, with my favorite director & ISU professor, Don LaCasse.

I first read this play freshman year at ISU. The play dates back to 1669, yet when I read it, I was struck with how humorous, fun, & truthful the play was. It was such a delight to read, & from then on I had Tartuffe tucked away in the back of my mind as a show I would love to see someday (but figured I'd never get the chance).

Then in 2019 it was announced Heartland Theatre was doing a production. I was beyond excited to audition, but alas, the pandemic post-poned the show. So I patiently waited another year & a half, & finally, got to audition.

Reading the script before auditions, my heart really leapt out for Mariane. She's written as a stock character, & ingenue, but I really wanted to bring more life into her. She's so loving & courageous, & I wanted desperately to make her into a character that's relatable, honest, & strong. Don & I both worked hard to try to give her that, & I am proud of what we were able to accomplish. Words cannot express my admiration for my cast & crew. I love them all so much, & have truly enjoyed spending these last few months with them.

It has been a hell of a ride, but I have thoroughly enjoyed "being Tartuffified!"

The show was well received by audiences, with full standing ovations multiple nights.
