Let's Watch: The United States VS. Billie Holiday

Hello friends!

Let's catch up. Hulu's: The United States vs. Billie Holiday is truly a tremendous film. It follows Billie through her life, through her music, & through her struggles as the FBI pursues her. It is full of emotion & beauty, & heartbreak. And Billie's story is well overdue to be told.

The music, is of course, dazzling & haunting. Billie performs on tours, at Carnegie Hall, & does whatever's necessary to give the people a good show. But mostly, she just wants to sing Strange Fruit, & is shot down by everyone around her whenever she tries.

The FBI constantly pursue her for her drug use, but she & her friends know it's to keep her from singing. The main FBI agent assigned to keep watch on her even goes on tour with her, & as he gets to know her, he begins to question his job.

The acting is heartbreaking & soulful. The cinematography is stunning. There is so much passion in every aspect of the film. And let's not forget, Andra Day won a golden globe for her role as Billie. What a powerful legacy Billie Holiday had. & what a marvelous way to preserve it.
