Let's Watch: Outlander

Hello friends!

Let's catch up. Right now I have to admit I'm currently bingeing my way through the Outlander series (currently on Netflix). I've heard great things about it for years, but it didn't seem my style. The reason I decided to give it a try was that I heard there was a Scottish dialect was involved, & we all know I can't resist a good dialect. So I started watching & I was immediately impressed.

The first thing that struck me was how well the writing was done. The lines flow beautifully, & everything is explained in detail, which I greatly appreciate. The main Scottish character, Jamie, carries the humor, & when things are getting too heavy, he manages to land the perfect joke (in a gorgeous dialect) to lighten things up again.

The creators of this show also knew just how much they could push each genre, too. I typically am not one for fantasy or romance shows, as I tend to prefer action or mystery (which this show does include). The other unique part of it is how well it fluctuates between time periods. I was waiting to witness a train-wreck, but it actually works. & all the characters are well developed (& most* are lovable).

Without getting into spoilers, I must say, I've watched the first three seasons, & they are all worth checking out. Best, of course, is season one. For season two, I had troubles getting into until slightly more than halfway through the season. Finally with a change of scenery, it regained my love & appreciation. Season three picked things up again & I thoroughly enjoyed all of it, & am very excited for their new location in season four.

Now at this point I had a bit of a scare, because when I tried to find season four & five, I discovered I don't have the right Hulu subscription to view these. A frenzied search at 2:00 AM one Friday night/Saturday morning brought me to ordering the complete series on dvd through Amazon. I know what you're thinking, & frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

I'll let you know when I finish this series out. & yes, it's worth it.
