Hello friends!
Let's catch up. If you don't know already, my favorite book genre is mystery, & I am on a personal quest to read all the best mystery novels out there. So far I've read every Sherlock Holmes novel that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ever published. & now I'm on my quest to do the same with Agatha Christie. Luckily, my mom had a good collection I could borrow from. Eighty-three stories in total! So now I'd like to share my top three favorites out of those.
Number Three: Mrs. McGinty's Dead
This story has many quirky, memorable characters, & of course, features none other than the famed detective Hercule Poirot. This story features around the murder of a cleaning lady, & although the case appears to be solved right from the beginning, not everything is as it seems. This story has mysteries within mysteries, & revolves around an old nursery rhyme, much like my other beloved mystery listed below. Try as I might, I could not solve this mystery until I read the words for myself.
Number Two: At Bertram's Hotel
This story I don't like so much for the characters, but moreso for the actual environment. The hotel itself is a character, & actually, my favorite one. Hercule Poirot is once again on hand at the scene of the crime, & has quite a wild ride trying to chase characters down to solve this mystery. It was a joy to read this, & a story I will certainly return to.
Number One: And Then There Were None / Ten Little Indians
This story is something I have a strong bias towards already. I actually first discovered this story as a play. When I was young, my parents bought me a ticket to join them at a local dinner theatre & off I went. I had so much fun seeing the show, & for the life of me, I could not figure out the ending, which was thrilling. This spurred my love for theatre, and love for Agatha Christie herself. Years later when I finally read the script, it was even better than I remembered! In my opinion, it's her best story. (& much harder to predict than Mousetrap). One day, I'd love to direct this play. When that will happen is still a mystery, but stay tuned.
If you have any good book recommendations for me, or just general comments or suggestions, please send them my way! I truly love & appreciate all feedback.
Slainté!
Kathleen 💛
