Costume Designer, Feb 2017 – Apr 2017
I was selected as a costume designer for Illinois State University's Spring Dance Concert. As a costume designer, I met with the choreographer and discussed his ideas for the piece, as well as the style of dance & the music accompanying it. Based off of what information I was given, I created an evocative research presentation to be approved by the lighting designer & choreographer. From there, I drew renderings for all three dancers & discussed & presented my final designs to the choreographer & lighting designer. I used varying colors & played with the flow of the garments to enhance the themes that the choreographer wanted.
From there, I took the dancers' measurements, found & made costumes that matched my designs, adjusted the costumes to fit the dancers, added detailing in to the costumes, & had everything ready to go within a month for the performances.
In addition to designing three dancers' costumes from scratch, I also designed hair & makeup for all three dancers, which fit with my costume designs & did not interfere with the dancing performed.
