At the Goodman Theatre, 2020

This is playing in Chicago through February 23. I strongly urge everyone to see it.

This play is on Roe V Wade. It starts in the 70’s, with the original meeting of Roe & the two female lawyers that take on the case. It follows the case, with true recordings of the court case played; alongside actors speaking the exact case their characters gave.

Then it continues to follow both the lawyer Sarah Weddington, & Roe, Norma McCorvey, as they explain their lives through the next few decades.

Roe V Wade is continued to be examined & explained & debated as the decades pass. Suddenly it’s modern day, & both sides are heard. The argument is pro life vs pro choice for the individual woman herself to make. It’s a strong, heated debate, yet this play tries to honor it all objectively, while still allowing for the characters to express their individual opinions.

This show was interrupted with applause & call outs throughout the show. Both the lawyer & Roe were in tears by the end. It is well written & expresses strong points, with arguments to back up all sides.

At bows, the audience cheered. Most gave a standing ovation, myself included. The two ladies next to me did not stand. In fact, they didn’t even clap. But, it was their choice.
